SEASONAL PROJECTS.

DEFINITION.

Seasonal projects are a cross-cutting solution method in which INSAN concentrate its sectoral effort in one season when it is needed the most. Annually, (starting from year 2016) INSAN runs several seasonal projects to help the needy children and families, orphans, Yemeni university students in Malaysia and the internally displaced  people in Yemen with a little extra support.

During the winter, in Yemen, for instance, INSAN’s Winterization Campaign brings warm items to help vulnerable families survive the change in weather.

In preparation for back to school, INSAN plans to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies to help children gear up for their new school year. (Note: this is the new seasonal project to be undertaken by INSAN in due course.)

And for many families celebrating the Islamic holidays of  Ramadan and Qurbani (or udhiya in Arabic) i.e.,   the act of sacrificing a livestock animal, the lack of access to food can be extremely difficult. This is why each year INSAN not only delivers food packs to needy families and students, but hosts warm Iftar dinners and distributes fresh meat to families in need.

SEASONAL PROJECTS.

1. Iftar Project

As part of our charity projects, we organize Community Iftar, and Suhoor  (during the last 10 days of Ramadan) program to the less privileged  individuals in the community, whereby  we serve ready food meals (prepared by nearby restaurants) to the poor, the needy, and students satying at various university campuses throughout Malaysia, among others.

With your generous and kind support, INSAN managed to feed over 5,795 (Yemeni) students and their families at eight (8) university campuses throughout Malaysia in 2018, and we spent a total of RM43,740 on this project.

2. Qurbani (Udhiya or Sacrificing a Livestock) Project

Qurbani (or udhiya in Arabic) is the act of sacrificing a livestock animal. It takes place after Eid-Ul-Adha prayers, marking the conclusion of Hajj. Millions of Muslims around the world honour the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim AS by sacrificing an animal and then distributing the meat to family, neighbours and the poor.

INSAN plans to continue the success of the Qurbani project and reach yet more people in and outside Malaysia. The aim of this project is to bring sustenance and joy to poor and disadvantaged people by providing them with Qurbani or Udhiya meat.

In 2019,  INSAN  arranged 405 shares of Qurbani/Udhiya  meat on behalf of our donor (Pure Hands Organization, USA), benefiting over 2,025 needy individuals, including the orphans living in Kuala Lumpur (Setapak area), Serdang and Kajang (Selangor), Pulau Pinang, Perlis, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor and Perak (in Malaysia); and RM29,587.50 was spent on the project.

3. Blankets Distribution Project

Last year (i.e., 2019), INSAN completed a winter blanket distribution in war-torn Yemen where internally displaced Yemenis are struggling with cold weather without adequate shelter.

Yemenis fleeing the violence often leave their homes with little more than the clothes they are wearing. When they find a community of fellow displaced families, there is rarely shelter available. Many Yemeni families have to craft together shelters from debris they find nearby.

In these conditions, winter months are especially difficult. INSAN worked with its partners and field workers inside Yemen to distribute blankets to 300 displaced families in and around the capital city of Yemen, Sanaa.

In Sanaa, winter time is very, very cold (especially at night) because the city itself is situated at the higher altitude. These internally displaced families  need winter assistance as well as food, medicine and other aid and INSAN with its partner in Sanaa, Olaa Almageed Organization was able to dilever those blankets, financed by Relief 4 Life in the amount of RM36,868.50. And this project has benefited some 1,500 individuals.

We are planning to give more to help these internally displaced people in Sanaa, Houdaida, Ibb, and some other gorvonerates in Yemen.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED

The crisis in Yemen has left millions of people in need of humanitarian aid or protection. With thousands of Yemenis displaced from their homes, many have now been living in dire conditions for years, facing daily threats to their lives, dignity and wellbeing. There are ongoing food and water shortages and inadequate access to sanitation and medical care continues to put the health of the population at risk.

INSAN has been responding to the crisis in Yemen since 2017. Today, we and our partners in Yemen are working deep inside Yemen to help those that most need assistance. Please support our work to help the people of Yemen.
